Congrats to our 2022 Social Worker of the Year - Cheryl Young, LCSW-S
Cheryl is the Clinical Director/Program Manager for In Home Counseling Services and Program Manager for Rainbow Connections ATX at Family Eldercare. Cheryl has 27+ years of post-Masters experience in the greater Austin area. She has been with Family Eldercare since 2011. We all know Cheryl as a caring social worker, a huge advocate for the LGBTQIA2+ community and a wonderful colleague who is happy to share her knowledge and experience with anyone who asks.
According to Carly Bassett, “Cheryl has supported her staff and developed other wonderful social workers who serve alongside her in the community. What I appreciate most about Cheryl is her down-to-earth attitude, optimism, and genuine care for her colleagues and clients. The success of in home counseling and rainbow connections has so much to do with her leadership and vision.”
Another of her colleagues, Ashley Ward had this to say about Cheryl: “she is an excellent social worker and supervisor. She is an outspoken advocate for her team members and clients. She is passionate about outreach, advocacy, and quality services for our community.”
Heidi Shanklin-Spock noted that, “Cheryl has been an invaluable counselor to several of my clients over the years. Her thoughtful and kind demeanor has made a difference in the lives of older adults who are navigating losses, depression and other mental health issues. I appreciate Cheryl’s guidance and wisdom over the past 15 years - she is an exceptional social worker”.
Cheryl has been a member of GASW for as long as I can remember. Her willingness to share her resources has been invaluable. She has served as a mentor for many of us in the field. She is a shining example of what it means to be a social worker, a colleague and a friend. With this honor comes a small token of our appreciation for the work that you do as well as a 2023 GASW membership. Please join me in congratulating Cheryl Young, our 2022 Social Worker of the Year.
